Trying to Understand

I've been doing a lot of thinking about unexpected loss lately. Spring always brings these somber thoughts, as my Grandmother died 2 years ago this month, followed that same day by my Grandfather taking his own life. These thoughts have been even more prominent, however, due to the loss of another dear friend. Many of you have heard of the passing of Josh, a Taylor student that Scott had the privilege of living with - one of his Sammy II brothers.

I don't have a lot to say - I know the grieving process is different for everyone, and that everyone will come to terms with his death in a different way. I did want to share, however, the following song lyrics. This is a song that I learned the day we buried my Grandparents, and I find it very appropriate today as we will be saying our final farewell's to Josh as well.

There's a peace I've come to know
Though my heart and flesh may fail
There's an anchor for my soul
I can say "It is well"

Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

There's a day that's drawing near
When this darkness breaks to light
And the shadows disappear
And my faith shall be my eyes

Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

And I hear the voice of many angels sing,
"Worthy is the Lamb"
And I hear the cry of every longing heart,
"Worthy is the Lamb"

And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

(Christ Tomlin: I will Rise)
